Types of mandates accepted
Legal aid mandates
Legal aid is a public service offered free of charge or for a contribution to financially eligible persons who request it.Limited scope mandates
A limited scope mandate means that the lawyer deals with only part of the case and not the whole case, in order to reduce costs and improve access to justice. For example, the lawyer's intervention may be limited to giving you legal advice or drafting proceedings, but not to representing you in court.Lump sum mandates
A mandate whereby a client agrees with a lawyer to pay a lump sum in exchange for legal services, instead of being billed the hours worked at an hourly rate.Percentage fee mandates
A mandate whereby a lawyer agrees to be compensated based on a percentage of the amount the client receives in the case.Mandate on an hourly rate basis
In this type of mandate, the lawyer bills the client based on the number of hours spent on the file (including the time spent on the phone and writing letters). -
